Where and how to refuel?
Gas stations:
- Refueling before returning the car:
Due to our full to full fuel policy, it is recommended to refuel your car as close to the return point as possible. So, depending on the return location, we suggest the following gas stations:
- Return Alicante Airport
- Return Alicante City
- Return Torrevieja City
- Return Torrevieja Punta Prima
- Return Orihuela Costa La Zenia
- Return Murcia Airport
- Opening hours of gas stations:
It should be remembered that most gas stations operate slightly differently in the morning and at night, even though they are 24-hour stations. It sometimes happens that you need to go to the counter and pay for refueling in advance. Sometimes the staff also requires you to leave the key at the cash register. There are also self-service stations where payment is automated.
- Payment methods at gas stations:
At traditional stations during the day, we pay at the cash register after refueling, by bank card or cash, providing the distributor's number. However, at an automated station such as Plenoil, you will need a debit or credit card, pre-paid cards are not supported because we declare the blocking amount at the dispenser. If we do not use the entire declared amount, a moment later we receive the rest back on the card. At the Plenoil station, it is possible to prepay in cash at the automatic cashier, but if we do not use the entire amount, we will only receive a coupon for the rest for subsequent refueling, but only at that specific station.
How to drive?
Rules and advice:
- Parking:
Generally, there are three colors for marking parking spaces in cities:
- White lines
Parking is free unless signs regulate the hours
- Blue lines
There should be a parking meter nearby
- Yellow lines
We do not park, the car may be towed
- Speed limits, speed cameras, fines:
The maximum speed in Spain is 120 km/h. Speed cameras or sections that may be subject to speed control are marked with appropriate signs and in advance. Please note that in city centers there may be a speed limit of up to 30 km/h. Typically, speed cameras only take photos from the rear, rarely they are aimed at the front of the car. However, please remember that legally there is nothing stopping the photo from being taken from the front as well. In the case of a speeding inspection, the fine can be paid on the spot and we have a 50% discount.
- Driving around two-lane roundabouts:
A legendary issue with the rules of driving around roundabouts on the Costa Blanca. This is especially noticeable in Valencia, where after entering a roundabout, the lane markings suddenly disappear. The Police website contains instructions on how to maneuver around the roundabout and, most importantly, how to leave it. Unfortunately, especially in high season, the traffic intensity is such that in practice we are unable to comply with them. The fault of a collision is also considered individually. So the only advice is to be extra careful and try to think for the drivers around you. From experience, we can say that if we leave the roundabout no further than the second exit - i.e. we go right or straight, we should stick to the right, outer lane. If we turn left, use the left one.

How to prevent theft:
To avoid breaking the window and stealing things from the car, you should not leave anything in plain sight. Spain is struggling with a plague of petty thefts, so it's better not to tempt thieves.
